Who Would've Thunk It? Not Me!

There I was, a college freshman, well soon to be sophomore. 18, well almost 19 years old, never had a boyfriend before, not too many, well not really any, guy friends, and of course no date to my sorority formal that was in one week. No big deal, I thought. I just won't go. Whatever. When one of my new friends, Lyndsey (and when I say new, I mean we had literally known each other 3 days) said, "I want you to go to formal. If I find you a date, will you go?" I said, "Sure. Why not?", not thinking in a million years that she would find one on such short notice.

But she did. I'll never forget the facebook message I got the next day from Lyndsey, "OMG! I found you a date! His name's Philip Palmer and he's really excited! He already has a tux, too." Great, I thought. Here we go. I have to find a dress, figure out my hair and makeup, figure out plans, get my nails done, all in one week and then endure an awkward night with a random guy I don't know. I did get a little more excited about it, but mainly I was scared out of my mind.

I became even more scared out of my mind when I found out how old he was. When I talked to Lyndsey, she said, "Oh, he's a senior." I thought, okay so he's about 22. A few years older than me, but that's ok. Wrong. After facebook stalking him (duh, wouldn't you?), I found out that he is 24. I freaked out. Any hopes I had previously had of us ever dating were officially gone. Not that they were ever too high, but I had stalked his facebook, I thought he was cute.

Lyndsey decided we needed to meet before the actual formal so the three of us went to eat lunch on campus. Kinda awkward. Whatever.

The day of Formal comes. I want to die. Just wanted to die, I was so nervous. It really wasn't that bad though. A few awkward pictures, awkward bus ride, pretty fun time at formal and awkward bus ride back. It could've been a lot worse.

As he was walking me back to the dorm, I'll never forget this, Philip said, "So, do you have a lot of finals this week?" Well, that's a weird question, I thought. Everyone has finals this week. But I said, "Well, just an English one which shouldn't be too bad." And then he said the words that I have never been more surprised to hear in my life, "Well, do you think you'd wanna go eat sometime this week?" WHAT? I couldn't believe it. Never in a million year would've thought anything would've come of that random formal date.

But it did.

A few days later we went to Olive Garden...

...And on Friday, one year later, we went back.

And the rest is history...
